Welcome Message from the Chancellor of Onomichi City University

 Welcome to Onomichi City University

Onomichi City University was founded in 1946 shortly after the war as Onomichi City Women's College. It then became Onomichi Junior College in 1950 and opened as Onomichi University, a full four-year university, in 2001. The name was changed again in 2012 to Onomichi City University when it became a public university corporation.

Onomichi City University sits in the quiet, natural surroundings of Hisayamada. The beautiful lake that spreads out in front of the campus is particularly soothing.

Onomichi City University consists of the Department of Economics, Management and Information Science in the Faculty of Economics, Management and Information Studies, and the Departments of Japanese Literature and Art and Design within the Faculty of Art and Culture. Although we are a small university with a total of about 1,400 students, including the graduate schools, we have a substantial range of specialized subjects for each department. By all means, please compare our curriculum with that of other universities. Reflecting our belief in the synergy between teaching and learning, our classes, including the general education subjects, are often taught through active learning.

Learning at university begins with the basics and gradually becomes more specialized. Unlike learning up to high school, at university you will often have to tackle problems that have no answer. Through such learning, you can hone your logical thinking skills and develop your problem-solving ability. When you sharpen your sensitivity and expand your creativity, it becomes a great power in your life. But the most important thing is to enjoy this kind of learning, to tackle situations with inquisitiveness and to enjoy thinking.

Currently, Onomichi City University attracts students from all over Japan, from Hokkaido in the north to Okinawa in the south. I hope that you come to our university and enjoy learning here.
